Pride Month Reflections: 30 Days of Queer Faith, Resistance, and Hope

3–4 minutes

Scripture-Centred Journey of Radical Inclusion

There is a story the church has often told about queer people and Scripture. It is a story of contradiction, of shame, and of exile. For centuries, a handful of verses, plucked from their historical and literary contexts, have been used to silence bodies, break families, and deny the sacred dignity of LGBTQIA+ lives, particularly across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, where religious authority and cultural stigma hold deep power.

But what if that story is wrong? What if the Bible, read with justice at its centre and with the lived experience of the marginalised as a site of revelation, tells a radically different story, one of embrace, resistance, and holy pride?

This Pride Month, Other Sheep, a global multicultural ministry with sexual minorities, invites you into a different kind of journey: “Pride Month Reflections: 30 Days of Queer Faith, Resistance, and Hope.”

A New Kind of Devotional

This is not a conventional Pride series. It is a pastoral and theological act of survival, witness, and transformation. Over 30 days, published every other day (on alternate days) rather than daily, to give space for deep reflection, we will walk through a carefully curated dialogue between Scripture and queer life.

Each reflection pairs a “Targeting Passage” (a text historically weaponised against sexual minorities, such as Romans 1:26-27) with an “Embracing Passage” (a text that reveals God’s wider witness of radical hospitality, justice, and belonging). This method refuses the false binary between faith and identity. The struggle, we believe, is not between Scripture and queer persons. It is between competing interpretations of Scripture, some that oppress, and others that liberate.

What You Will Find

Every alternate-day post will include:

  • Title
  • A Targeting Passage
  • An Embracing Passage
  • A 250-300 Word Reflection
  • A Short Prayer
  • Author’s Name and Profile

These are not academic exercises. They are spiritual survival tools. They are written for the queer Christian who has been told they cannot belong. For the parent who wants to be an ally. For the pastor in a hostile context who seeks a biblically grounded language of inclusion. And for the institutional church itself, called to accountability and the recovery of its moral imagination.

Why Every Other Day?

We have chosen an alternate-day rhythm (beginning June 1st) to allow each pairing of passages to settle, to be prayed with, and to be discussed in small groups or in personal contemplation. This is not a race. It is a pilgrimage.

Join the Journey

This series is for you if:

  • You are a queer Christian seeking to see your face in the sacred text.
  • You are an ally longing to move beyond silence into courageous solidarity.
  • You are a seeker wondering if faith and queer dignity can coexist (they can, and they do).
  • You are a leader in a faith community, ready to re-read Scripture with ethical responsibility.

The world will tell you that you must choose between your truth and your God. This series insists otherwise. As Vinod Shemron, Global Coordinator of Other Sheep, writes in the opening reflection: ”Pride, then, becomes sacred refusal: a refusal to internalise shame, a refusal to disappear, a refusal to let oppressive interpretations have the final word.”
